Background:
Built in 1909 to replace a Methodist school, the site was modernised in 1988 when the buildings were developed as a single unit with full disabled access and facilities. It now has a computer room with 17 workstations, a 'well-stocked' library, a music room and even its own museum. One wing houses a Community Association which organises a youth club, parent and toddlers group, holiday playschemes and an after school club for infant and junior children. Modern foreign languages are taught to year 5 and 6 pupils and following an arrangement with a local grammar school, a Spanish club is also run at lunchtimes. There are various activity clubs such as drama and a school choir. There are football and netball teams which play in local leagues and educational visits in support of the national curriculum. The school is not over-subscribed. Its moto is 'Aiming high'.
