Background:
Hatherton Lane Primary is an amalgamation of two schools which were built in the late 1930s and early 1960s. In 1990, a link corridor was constructed to join the two buildings. The school'serves a large former council estate to the north west of Walsall and has good links with the local commmunity, frequently becoming involved in local activities. 'Active' links also exist with Jenner House, a nearby home for the elderly, where the Year 6 pupils provide an annual 'harvest tea'. The 'extensive' grounds have been developed over the years to provide 'habitats for wildlife and a rich variety of trees'. The special educational needs (SEN) co-ordinator works alongside staff for one and a half days a week as the school 'aims to cater for all children who have SEN'.
