Background:
Our Lady of the Wayside School is a voluntary aided school within the Archdiocese of Birmingham and the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull. The school was opened in 1961 to educate Catholic children at the infant and junior stages living in the Parish of Our Lady of the Wayside. The church of Our Lady of the Wayside is situated at the entrance to the grounds and the school supports it in its parish links, particularly with overseas projects. Community links are further strengthened by an active parent-teacher association, which raises funds for the school, including a significant contribution towards a new infant block in 1998. The attractive site has been developed in recent years with the addition of four new classrooms, a renovated administrative area, a new nursery unit and a computer suite. The school aims to provide a happy, stimulating learning environment where children are educated within a framework of its Catholic traditions.
