Background:
St Margaret's Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School was founded in 1885 and moved to its present site in 1960. It comprises infant and junior wings, a nursery building, a playground and two playing fields divided by a pavilion. An extension to the infant wing opened in 1993 followed by an extension to the junior department in 1998 to provide a computer room, design and technology room and cloakroom space. Each class is equipped with a networked computer. After-school sports clubs include cricket, netball, football and rugby, while chess and drama are also offered. As a church school, it has strong links with St Margaret's Church. Children visit local residential homes, and the local library. There is a major fundraising event every term, and beneficiaries have included Marie Curie, Cancer Care and the Salvation Army.
