Background:

Charlemont Junior and Infant School was originally founded in the early 1930s as an infant, junior and secondary school. The secondary school was closed in the 1970s and the infant and junior schools were amalgamated in 1986. The school is situated in the residential area of Charlemont in the Black Country. The major emphasis of the curriculum is on English, mathematics, science and information and communications technology (ICT). Extra-curricular activities include a variety of music and sporting activities, educational visits and stays at a residential centre. The pupils also raise money for charity every year. There is an active parent-teacher association. The school has been nominated for the 2004 schools innovation award. The school aims to help all pupils become independent thinkers, showing maturity, ability and a willingness to go on learning and adapting.
