Background:
Opened in 1969, the school is situated in a 'pleasant' residential area on the Kingswinford side of Wordsley. Facilities include eight classrooms, a hall, library, a special area for food technology, two playgrounds and a playing field. The school also has a computer suite with six computers and every child has access to two classroom-based computers. A 'wide range' of extra-curricular activities is available, including team sports, badminton, gymnastics, chess, needlework and music. Fairhaven has a 'strong' sporting tradition and the football team has won the local league five times in the last seven seasons. The school also enjoys success in netball, swimming and cricket. Fairhaven aims to 'create a happy and caring environment' for its children and 'provide a wide range of well-balanced learning opportunities for all children to help them grow into independent and responsible people'. It is oversubscribed, with 42 applicants for 35 places.
