Background:
Opened in 1956 as an LEA Bi-Lateral school, Highfields has been a comprehensive since 1974. The school is situated on a green field site to the south west side of Wolverhampton, within easy reach of major bus routes. Extensive grounds provide the location for a wide range of extra-curricular activities and sporting opportunities. The school boasts an 'enviable record of success in hockey, soccer and table tennis' with success at National, County and local levels, and an 'excellent' reputation in the Arts. Facilities include 'state-of-the-art' science laboratories, information technology rooms and an I.T. base within the library. The lecture theatre, drama studio, music areas and the geography, technology and history suite have all been recently refurbished. A new classroom block is also planned for spring 2000. An 'I.T. enhancement programme' is currently underway which plans to network all areas of the school within an extensive Intranet service. The school places particular emphasis upon pastoral care and offers a three day induction programme in July for year 6 students.
