Background:

St Francis of Assisi is a mixed 11 to 18 Catholic Technology College situated in a semi-rural location on the eastern fringe of Walsall local education authority within the Archdiocese of Birmingham. The school was opened in 1969 and comprises excellent buildings adjacent to its own extensive playing fields. There are six science laboratories, an electronic learning suite containing four computers room and a conference room. It also has a sports hall, gymnasium, design and technology centre, sixth form centre and a suite of music rooms. A wide range of extra-curricular activities are offered at lunchtime and after-school. The school has a very strong music tradition. A large number of pupils receive instrumental tuition and participate in many of the music department's activities. Pupils are encouraged to participate in a healthy lifestyle by participating and enjoying a variety of activities. These activities include netball, football, badminton, cricket, rounders, aerobics, basketball, gymnastics, hockey, tennis, volleyball, dance, athletics, softball, table tennis, fitness and outdoor education. The school aims to provide an excellent education for all its pupils, within the context of the Catholic faith and the teaching of the Church.
