Background:
Initially took form of a Sunday school as early as 1815; in 1839, school founded formally by parish of St John the Baptist in Corporation Street, with one of first government grants for elementary education; changed location a number of times until eventually arriving at present site in 1964. Close links with Parish Church of St Christopher. Main school building is well-maintained and surrounded by pleasant grounds, sports field and conservation area. Strong tradition of extra-curricular music, supporting a choir, orchestra, and recorder and guitar groups that work closely with Coventry's performing arts service. Homework and activities club until 4pm. Extra-curricular activities include basketball, football, netball, French, art, chess and gardening club. DfES achievement award (2001).
