Background:

St Mary's RC School was founded in 1895 with extensions being added in 1936, 1953 and 1971. It is situated in the grounds of St Mary's Priory. There has recently been a 'major renovation of the roof' and there are 'plans to refurbish the whole school in stages'. Art is taught by a 'specialist' teacher and the standard is 'exceptionally high'. Extra curricular activities include drama, chess, choir, netball and a 'flourishing' football club. 'We believe that the education of the child is a partnership between home and school.' After-school care, until 6pm. Over-subscribed, with four applications per place. Artsmark Silver (2002); DfES achievement award.
