Background:
Parents play a 'key role' in this over-subscribed school which serves an area of Wednesbury where unemployment is higher than average and which consists mainly of local authority housing. Guides on the literacy hour and 'how to help your child', homework diaries and policies, and curriculum summaries have been produced and sent to parents. The school has played a 'leading' role in Wednesbury's bid for Education Action Zone status and, in partnership with members of the community, has also successfully bid to set up a playground and adult classes. The school has also been nominated for the Basic Skills Quality Mark by Sandwell Local Education Authority. 'The school believes in continuous improvement and the empowerment of children to be independent and self-motivated learners'.
