Background:
Hamstead Junior School was built in 1937 and shares its site with Hamstead Infants. The 'well-maintained' buildings are mostly accessible by wheelchair. Pupils are drawn from an area of mixed council and privately owned housing. There is a strong focus on the core subjects of English, mathematics and science in addition to other National Curriculum subjects, and information and communications technology (ICT) is provided for in a new suite. Extra-curricular activities include football, netball, gymnastics, skipping, drama and French. The school values its links with local industry, church and the senior citizens' rest home and each year there is one major fund-rainsing activity for a charity.
