Background:

Formed as a girls 'grammar technical' in 1958, Lordswood now accepts male pupils to its open access sixth form centre. The school is proud of its 'sound tradition of academic and artistic excellence'. In addition to the national curriculum, it offers drama, religious education, a second modern foreign language, ICT, personal development and Latin, and in Years 10 and 11 subjects as diverse as sociology, photography, business studies and statistics are available. Facilities for information technology are provided in all subject areas. A varied programme of physical education and expressive arts is offered and extra-curricular activities include dance, gymnastics, orchestra, choir, drama, athletics, tennis, basketball, football, netball, environment club and young engineers. Girls are encouraged to be actively involved in charity work and have represented Birmingham in all major sports. Oversubscribed by more than 100%, the school is a 'happy, active place' which serves to 'produce intelligent, educated, responsible and professionally trained women'.
