Background:

Harborne Primary School was formed in 2000 from the former infant and junior schools, which have been on the present site since 1902. It is a three-form entry school, which is well over-subscribed and serves a cosmopolitan community close to Birmingham University and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The school is currently reapplying for its Artsmark Gold award as well as a Leading Aspect award for the range of residential visits it offers to the children. Such visits, which also include residential visits abroad, plus a strong programme of extra-curricular clubs are integral to the school's provision for personal and social education. Although the school's 20th century buildings are short on space it has work hard to provide a wide range of sporting opportunities. The school uses the university owned playing fields and regularly take part in local and district sports tournaments. The school won an Education Business award last year and has a wide programme of community and charitable links. The school values each child as an individual, celebrating both their achievements and supporting their individual needs. It promotes high standards of achievement by offering an exciting broad and balanced curriculum that really motivates the children to learn. The school gives high importance to arts and sport.
