Background:
The Mapledene School was built in 1950 and is 'typical of the style and construction of the time'. A 'long, tree lined drive' leads to 'spacious' buildings and 'extensive' playing fields. There are 'well-lit, carpeted' classrooms and additional 'specialist' rooms for art, music, special educational needs and community use. The library is in the main school entrance and the hall has a large stage for performances. 'Our intention is to serve all the families who live in the area by providing a high quality educational service. We are committed to meeting the needs of all children, irrespective of their physical or intellectual abilities'.
