Background:
St Barnabas Primary School was founded in 1813 when it was known as Erdington Church of England School. It moved to its present site in 1964 and is housed in a single-storey, flat-roofed building. It set in 'attractive grounds' approached by a tree lined driveway with a small playing field to the rear. Pupils are drawn from a large residential area to the north of Birmingham. Sports are a 'feature' of school life and in recent years, teams have come first in the local swimming gala and rounders tournament. There are 'strong' links with the local church and community who are invited to watch drama performances and join social occasions. The school has supported National Children's Homes, the European Children's Trust, Red Nose Day and a local nursery for disabled children in its efforts to help charitable causes. The 'strong Christian ethos' provides 'a sound pastoral base' for all of the children at the school. St Barnabas is over subscribed with 2.5 applicants for every place.
