Background:

St Mary's is situated in 'pleasant' surroundings in a residential area of Kingswinford. It was founded in the late 19th century to provide local children with a Christian education and 'still draws its inspiration from the same ideals'. It moved to its present site in 1968, where it is housed in a 'modern' building with 10 'large' classrooms, a school hall and a library. There are 'pleasant' grounds with a wildlife garden, football field, patio areas and a 'large' gazebo. The school encourages pupils to enjoy sporting activities like basketball, volleyball, cricket, table tennis, fencing, football, netball, gymnastics and keep fit. As part of the Dudley Junior Sport Link Scheme, sports are led by professional coaches, and the pupils compete each year in sports day. A programme of extra-curricular events is on offer and a school council is also held. There are 'strong' links with the community and the school raises funds for one main charity each year. It is 'committed to raising standards and widening opportunities both for individual children and the community in general'.
