Background:
Stirchley Primary School was founded in 1878 and has taken various forms since then although it still occupies its original building. The school has a tarmac playground but no grass areas. Approximately 20 per cent of pupils are from ethnic minority backgrounds and last year 35 per cent of pupils were eligible for free meals. Stirchley Primary recieved a Basic Skills Award in April 1999 and has a number of links with local industries. Extra curricular activities include netball, football, French and a monthly family reading group held in partnership with the local library.
