Founded as grammar school for girls in 1929; briefly became comprehensive in 1975 before reverting to selective school in 1980; within walking distance of Sutton Coldfield; also well-placed for bus and rail links, school takes pupils from Sutton Coldfield, Lichfield, Tamworth, Walsall, Bromsgrove and Redditch and whole of Birmingham. Proud of reputation for musical activities; pupils found in most Birmingham orchestras and ensembles; produces a biennial light opera, together with neighbouring school. Outdoor pursuits; national and international representatives. Excellent achievements in art competitions; strong tradition in sport, including netball, hockey, cross-country, orienteering, triathlon, tennis, rounders, athletics, rugby, football and swimming.
