Background:
Swanshurst School is a ten-form entry 11-19 Comprehensive school for girls which admits male students in the sixth form. It has 1800 pupils which includes 300 pupils in years 12 and 13. Regular meetings are held to allow parents to meet teachers and discuss each individual pupil's progress and also to inform parents of curriculum development within the school. Each pupils' progress is monitored by academic and pastoral staff. Parents recieve a formal report at least three times a year. Pupils themselves participate in the process of assessment through the development of a Record of Achievement. The school has 13 laboratories, performing arts studios, a business studies suite, and specialist rooms for many other subjects. In Information Technology there is extensive area networking of facilities across the site and through the internet. The school has its own playing fields and three gymnasia.
