Background:
Built in 1960, at top of a cul-de-sac amidst mature trees, above the Black Country town of Halesowen, with access to adjacent sports fields; draws from wide catchment area; considerable extensions over the years to accommodate increasing number of children. Most recent development is a state-of-the-art computer suite, fully connected to the internet, with video-conferencing facilities. After-school clubs include football, netball, cricket, rounders, gymnastics, country dancing and painting. Children from Years 1 to 6 have swimming lessons. Substantial funds raised for charities including MacMillan Cancer Relief, CAFOD, Unicef, Birmingham Children's Hospital, Marie Curie, Fr Hudson's Homes, the premature baby unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Acorn Children's Hospice, Water Aid and Indian earthquake appeal. In 2000 the school linked with a village in Kerala, India, to build a shrine. School takes part in all local competitive sports activities and 'achieves many successes'. DfES achievement award in 2000 and 2001; Beacon school status in 2001.
